Chairman Jovanovic Outlines EXIM's Role in Securing Supply Chains and Rebuilding the Industrial Base
CARLISLE, PA. — On July 15th, Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) Chairman John Jovanovic participated in Senator Dave McCormick’s (R-PA) Pennsylvania Defense and Innovation Summit, joining a panel discussion focused on strengthening America’s industrial base, securing critical supply chains, and boosting manufacturing capacity. Chairman Jovanovic was joined by Jonathan Gray, President & Chief Operating Officer of Blackstone, Shyam Shankar, Chief Technology Officer of Palantir, and James Taiclet, Chief Executive Officer of Lockheed Martin. The panel was moderated by Dina Powell McCormick.
“If we say national security is economic security, what we’re really saying is that supply chain security and resiliency are foundational,” said Chairman Jovanovic. “EXIM was created in 1934 to revitalize the U.S. economy, and the challenges the United States faced then are some of the same ones we face today. How do we rebuild our industrial base? How do we ensure our innovators can deliver for America? That’s where the real chokepoint lies and that’s where EXIM is getting to work.”

During the discussion, Chairman Jovanovic reiterated the importance of addressing supply chain vulnerabilities in critical minerals, energy production, and domestic manufacturing capacity to ensure the United States can meet its economic and national security objectives. He highlighted how EXIM’s financing tools support U.S. production, strengthen strategic industries, and boost American exporters competing in key global markets.
On the American Dream: “I’ve never been more optimistic about our ability to deliver the American Dream 2.0 for another 250 years. I see it every single day across America with everything we do,” Chairman Jovanovic added.
On permitting reform: “$1.5 trillion worth of projects in America are waiting on the sidelines. They’re just waiting on sensible permitting. If we want to unleash America’s industrial capacity, if we want to be able to deliver the America Dream for another 250 years, we need sensible reform,” Chairman Jovanovic said.
On Pennsylvania as a manufacturing hub: “What Senator McCormick said about Pennsylvania being the place to be if you want to build, if you want to innovate, is so true. It has abundant natural resources, a desire to build, a desire to create, a workforce that is growing and advancing by the day,” Chairman Jovanovic said.
On artificial intelligence: “Artificial intelligence is going to be the shot in the arm to reindustrialize America, bring back competitiveness, and deliver the safe, prosperous world that we want our grandchildren to inherit.
