Protecting the Public from Fraudulent Activity

The Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) is aware that fraudsters may attempt to misuse EXIM's name, programs, employees, branding, or communications to deceive businesses and members of the public.

Be Alert for Common Fraud Schemes

Fraud involving EXIM may include:

  • Individuals impersonating EXIM employees or officials
  • Fraudulent financing offers claiming EXIM support or backing
  • Requests for advance fees in exchange for financing or business opportunities
  • Fake procurement, contracting, or vendor communications
  • Fraudulent websites, email addresses, or social media accounts claiming affiliation with EXIM
  • Phishing emails seeking sensitive financial or business information

Scammers may use publicly available information to make fraudulent communications appear legitimate.

How to Verify a Communication from EXIM

Before responding to any communication claiming to be from EXIM:

  • Carefully review the sender's email address and contact information. All EXIM emails come from @exim.gov
  • Be cautious of unexpected requests for sensitive information, payments, or urgent action.
  • Verify links before clicking and confirm that websites are legitimate.
  • Independently contact EXIM through official channels if you have concerns about a communication.

EXIM does not request sensitive financial information or payments through unsolicited email communications.

If you believe you have been a victim of fraud that references EXIM or appears to misuse EXIM's name, programs, or employees, please report it to the Office of Inspector General.
