Karl Von Batten

Dr. Karl Von Batten, FRSPH, is a senior policy advisor, government affairs strategist, and international development specialist with more than 23 years of experience supporting the United States federal government, multilateral institutions, and Sub-Saharan African partners. He is the founder and managing principal of Von Batten-Montague-York, L.C., a Washington, D.C.-based advisory firm that assists governments, public institutions, and private-sector entities in aligning governance, economic development, and human rights priorities with United States strategic, commercial, and security interests.

Dr. Von Batten’s professional work encompasses sanctions and due diligence analysis, export-finance environments, rule-of-law reform, and evidence-based policymaking. He regularly advises Members of Congress, executive-branch officials, and foreign counterparts on matters related to governance, economic stability, humanitarian access, transparency, and the responsible application of United States foreign policy instruments. He is a committed supporter of President Donald J. Trump’s “America First but not alone” doctrine, which prioritizes American prosperity while strengthening strategic partnerships that advance United States interests abroad.

Dr. Von Batten is also a prominent Republican leader in the nation’s capital. He serves as Chairman of the Development and Finance Committee of the District of Columbia Republican Party and previously served as Chairman of the Party’s Ward 3 Committee. He is an elected Delegate to the 2024 Republican National Convention and is recognized for his contributions to party development, donor engagement, and strategic outreach within Washington, D.C.

Prior to establishing his firm, Dr. Von Batten held senior leadership roles in global health and development, including serving as Director of Finance and Administration for the PEPFAR AIM Project, where he oversaw operations supporting more than 120 programs across Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, and Latin America. He has served as an executive advisor within the Veterans Health Administration, contributed to financial-integrity and auditreadiness initiatives within the Department of Defense, and advanced administrative dueprocess standards at the Department of Health and Human Services.

A United States Army veteran with an active Department of Defense Secret clearance, Dr. Von Batten also served as a mayoral nominee and Council-confirmed Commissioner on the District of Columbia Statewide Health Coordinating Council.

He holds advanced degrees from the University of Oxford, Columbia University, the New York Institute of Technology, and A.T. Still University and is a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health.
