Mary Stokes
Economist | Country Risk and Economic Analysis Department
Mary serves as Economist of Country Risk and Economic Analysis Department. In this role she is the country risk economist covering Latin America and the Carribean where she provides country risk assessments and proposes risk ratings for countries in the LAC region to the Interagency Country Risk Assessment System (ICRAS); respond to comments from member agencies, as needed. Additionally, she coordinates the quarterly CLS update on behalf of CREA and participates in the OECD Country Risk Experts’ Group. During her time at EXIM, Mary has proudly accomplished speaking on panels on the global economic outlook with her CREA colleagues at the last two EXIM conferences and being a part of the deal team that secured approval for a $526 million loan for a gas-to-energy project in Guyana – the deal of the year at the 2025 EXIM conference.
Prior to working at EXIM, Mary was a Senior Director covering EMEA Country and Sovereign Risk at Mizuho Bank in London where she made recommendations to senior management on country exposure limits and credit policy for the EMEA emerging markets, where the Bank held over $20 billion in assets. During her nine years there she was promoted three times and then departed in 2022 to return to the U.S. and work for EXIM.
Mary holds a BA in Political Science with a minor in Business Administration from UCLA and holds an MA in International Economics and Latin American Studies, specializing in Emerging Markets from Johns Hopkins.
