Sarah Whitten
Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer
As Chief Commercial Officer of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM), Ms. Whitten serves on the agency’s executive leadership team as the executive responsible for both Origination and Policy, bringing unified commercial and strategic leadership to the U.S. government’s export credit agency. In this capacity, she oversees a team of regionally and sector-focused professionals driving new business development, while simultaneously shaping the policy frameworks that govern EXIM’s global mandate, including execution of a Congressionally mandated strategic initiative to enhance the competitiveness of U.S. exporters in critical and emerging sectors.
Prior to joining EXIM, Ms. Whitten served at the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), where she advanced infrastructure finance across sub-Saharan Africa, facilitating the mobilization of capital for priority projects in energy, transportation, and telecommunications in close collaboration with public and private financing partners.
Ms. Whitten brings 15 years of private-sector banking experience to her public-sector leadership. At Standard Chartered Bank, she advised and structured complex financial solutions for a portfolio of multinational corporations operating in dynamic markets. Earlier roles on Standard Chartered's Debt Capital Markets team in New York and Merrill Lynch's Private Banking division in Chicago established a deep foundation in capital markets, investment strategy, and client relationship management.
Her global perspective is shaped by assignments in Tokyo, Johannesburg, New York, Chicago, and Washington, D.C., equipping her to navigate cross-border challenges and opportunities with nuance and strategic authority
Ms. Whitten holds a bachelor's degree from Northwestern University and a dual master's degree from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service and the McDonough School of Business.
