U.S. CONGRESSMAN MICHAEL G. OXLEY OF OHIO TO SPEAK AT EX-IM BANK ANNUAL CONFERENCE IN WASHINGTON, D.C., APRIL 23, 2003
U.S. Congressman Michael G. Oxley (R-Ohio), chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, will address the annual conference of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (Ex-Im Bank) at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C.
Ex-Im Bank's two-day conference on April 22 and 23 features speeches, workshops and exhibits on trade and export finance to help U.S. exporters expand their sales. Approximately 1,000 exporters, trade financiers, government officials, and other trade professionals are expected to participate.
A strong advocate of U.S. exports and job creation, Rep. Oxley has a long involvement with trade, telecommunications and energy issues. As chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, Rep. Oxley successfully guided Ex-Im Bank's reauthorization legislation through the House last year. Rep. Oxley represents the fourth congressional district in western Ohio and is currently serving his 11th term in the House of Representatives.
Over the past five years, Ex-Im Bank has helped 169 Ohio companies in 79 communities to export nearly $900 million of products and services to international markets. Ex-Im Bank's financing is estimated to have helped to support thousands of Ohio jobs over the five-year period.
As the official export credit agency of the United States, Ex-Im Bank helps to finance U.S. exports, primarily to developing markets, by providing export credit insurance, loan guarantees, and loans. In fiscal year 2002, Ex-Im Bank supported nearly $13 billion of U.S. exports worldwide.
