Export-Import Bank of the United States President and Chair Reta Jo Lewis Addresses Global 2022 Export Conference in Lisbon

LISBON, PORTUGAL – On Wednesday, President and Chair of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) Reta Jo Lewis concluded a successful visit to Lisbon, Portugal, where she addressed the TXF Global 2022 conference, “Export, Agency and Project Finance,” and held numerous bilateral meetings with key stakeholders.

Lisbon MeetingKicking off the conference, Chair Lewis participated in a panel discussion with other export credit agency (ECA) heads, “Sustainability, decarbonization, project pipelines and policy.” Chair Lewis emphasized EXIM’s commitment to clean energy and President Biden’s whole-of-government approach to leading the global energy transition. During the panel, Chair Lewis also spoke about EXIM’s financing tools and programs, highlighting the latest initiative, Make More in America, designed to provide financing to support U.S. exports.

“The Make More in America Initiative provides financing to environmentally beneficial projects, small businesses, and transformational export areas, including semiconductors, biotech and biomedical products, renewable energy and energy storage,” said Chair Lewis. “This initiative will help revitalize American manufacturing, improve the resilience of our supply chains and help American companies competing in overseas markets.”

While in Lisbon, Chair Lewis also met with numerous ECA heads, financial institutions, trade associations such as AmCham Portugal, and various American exporters including SunAfrica. During these discussions, Chair Lewis outlined key EXIM priorities and worked to identify potential avenues for future partnership and collaboration.

“It was wonderful for EXIM to be back, in person, to meet with so many important stakeholders,” said Chair Lewis. “This conference presented a perfect opportunity to discuss priorities and identify key collaborations to help fulfill EXIM’s important mandate. Our team looks forward to forging new, mutually beneficial partnerships.”
