Congressman Phil English, 21st District-PA, and Dan Renberg, member of the Board of Directors of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (Ex-Im Bank) will discuss ways that Erie companies can expand their businesses by tapping into the global marketplace at an International Training Symposium Tuesday, October 9, at the Blasco Library in Erie, PA. Renberg also will tour General Electric's Erie locomotive plant at 8 a.m. before the symposium. Both events are open to the press.

Companies large and small in the Erie area can learn how to access Ex-Im Bank financing that could help them begin or expand export sales to foreign markets. The training symposium is sponsored by the Erie Conference on Community Development, the Gannon University Small Business Development Center, the Erie Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Erie-Western Pennsylvania Port Authority.

In Pennsylvania over the past five years, Ex-Im Bank has helped 242 companies, including Erie businesses such as TM Industrial Supply, Inc. and Earl E. Knox Co., Inc., to export $2.3 billion of goods and services to emerging markets around the world.

Ex-Im Bank is an independent federal agency that assists in financing the export of U.S. goods and services to developing markets around the world, through export credit insurance, loan guarantees, and direct loans. In fiscal year 2001, Ex-Im Bank helped to finance approximately $12.4 billion of U.S. exports worldwide.
