B&B Manufacturing Corporation, a small business located in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, manufactures wiring and ignition parts equipment for motor vehicles produced around the globe. Established in 1985, the company relies on exports for 68 percent of its total sales. B&B Manufacturing exports to buyers in 11 countries, including Guatemala, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic.
Although exports are a great source of wealth for many small businesses, international sales provide an array of threats to a company's financial health. International distributers often expect to but on open-credit terms; while these can allow a seller to be more competitive, global customers do not always pay on time for the products they bought. This results in a loss of working capital for the U.S. -based seller.
The company has used an EXIM small business export credit multi-buyer policy for almost 20 years to extend credit to its portfolio of international buyers.
EXIM has supported $9.5 million of B&B Manufacturing’s export sales between 2013 and 2018.
