Unregistered URL or Relative Internal URL

In the Insert Link to Existing Page dialog, you can use an input field for free-form entry of the target URL. This may be a relative URL for a page or document on the internal CommonSpot server, or a fully qualified URL for a page or document on any external web server. For the latter, "http://…." or another protocol specifier must be included.

This option allows you to link to an existing internal or external Web page (URL), or an already uploaded file (e.g. Word document) that is internal to the site. If this is the preferred choice, click on Link to Existing Page, Uploaded Document or URL.

Upon selecting Link to Existing Page, Uploaded Document or URL, notice the addition of the check box labeled ‘Open link in a new window’ at the bottom of the Insert Link dialog.  When checked, the page or file you are linking to will be opened in a new browser window, while the current page remains open and in view.

After selecting ‘Link to Existing Page, Uploaded Document or URL’, clicking the ‘Next’ button will advance you to the Insert Link to Existing Page dialog, where you will identify the internal or external page or document to which you want to link.

The Insert Link to Existing Page dialog provides several options for specifying the target page for the link. The target may be an existing CommonSpot page, a Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel or Adobe Acrobat PDF document, or any internet accessible web page. It is also possible to link to a specific named element on an existing CommonSpot page.

Choose Button

Click the Choose button to open the Page Gallery dialog which allows simple searches by subsite and/or category.

Document Jumps

Click the ‘Jump…’ button to open the Document Jumps dialog, which allows you to select a specific target for the link that you are creating. When the user clicks the link, the target page will open and scroll to the selected element. This option can be used in conjunction with selecting a CommonSpot page via either the Page Gallery or the Find dialog. If no page has been selected, the target will be a named element on the current page.
